Each state has a crime victim compensation program and a number of them receive funds under the Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) that allows them to offer financial help to violent crime victims and their families.
In Texas, a victim of violent crime can apply to the Texas Attorney General’s Office to receive money from the Compensation to Victims of Crime Fund by filing an application with the Crime Victims’ Compenation Program (CVC) and receive assistance from the Crime Victim Services Division (CVSD).
